Our 10-day Tastings Thailand food tour, hosted personally by cookbook author Robert Carmack (Thai Cooking, Vietnamese Cooking from Periplus Publishers) and textile designer Morrison Polkinghorne. Highlight includes 4 days in Khon Kaen at the world-first Isan Food Festival in Northeast Thailand and VIP passes for the 2-day Thai Cuisine Masterclass Weekend workshops at the at the Sofitel Raja Orchid. Workshops range from Serving Western Wines with Thai Food, to a primer on Curries; and an outrageous course on Improbable Cuisine -- Isan's penchant for strange and unusal offerings like ant egg soup, lizzard, fried insects. Top names include cookbook author and London restaurateur Vatch Bhunichitr, Somsak Wongdechanand, editor in chief of Thailand's leading food magazine Gourmet & Cuisine, and Philip Cornwel-Smith, author of Very Thai. See full details of the weekend masterclass on CLICK HERE

Tour locations also include the up-market beach resort of Hua Hin (where Thai royalty spends their summer!), staying amidst the colonial topiary gardens of the Sofitel Centara Grande; the kingdom's dessert capital Phetchaburi; and Bangkok where we visit Aw Taw Kaw fresh market, listed by Time magazine this year as Asia's Best Secret. We also take a day-long pilgrims' klong or canal boat trip from Bangkok to Nakhon Pathom visiting Thailand's oldest temple (2000 years old).

Thailand's Northeast region of Isan, directly bordered by Laos to its east and Cambodia to its south, has the country's most delicous food. Moreover it holds the most ancient Khmer temples outside of Cambodia itself, and is also home to the kingdom's finest and most intricate weaving. All aspects are covered in our food tour.

Tastings Thailand is a small-group 10-day tour, exclusively deluxe/5-star Sofitel hotels throughout, and most meals, excursions, market tours, cooking classes. Prices from US$2995 p/p. We appeal to food lovers first and foremost, looking at food in its many guises from farming, to markering to hawker food and restaurant fare alike. Cooking classes are just one part of the full recipe. But we also are mindful that husbands and friend sconstitute about a third of our group, so we ensure everyone finds the tour interesting.

A portion of every Globetrotting Gourmet® tour is donated back into local communities. Proceeds from our upcoming Tastings '08 tours go to the Kalawya Monastery in Rangoon/Yangon monastery feeding the city's children.
