HOTEL NOSTALGIA |

Hotel Nostalgia, Urban Boutique Hotel, Singapore The concept of “boutique hotel” has much to be desired in Singapore. Independent-ownership (vs. chain) is one thing, but Lilliputian rooms are totally out of the question when marketing deluxe properties. Unfortunately, this seems the trend on this island city, and we’re ready to pack our bags elsewhere. Even after three upgrades, our rooms at Nostalgia were still miniscule, and we kept tripping over luggage, plus bumping our heads on poorly-designed cabinet fittings with jutting corners. On the plus side, we’ve rarely encountered a more helpful staff. And the beds are especially comfy, with great pillows and 350-count sheets. It’s located directly across from one of our fav hawker centers, and the area abounds in night-time eating. There’s presently 50 rooms, with plans to expand further – but alas, in the same dinky dimensions. |

Wangz, Singapore Another boutique property, but small-sized rooms here are better designed with a feeling of much more spaciousness. Located just down the street from Hotel Nostalgia, and frankly, not as convenient to night life. But its a short 10 minutes walk away to Chinatown and a mere 5 minutes to the subway, and a better hotel, with mod cons and a sense of luxury, which the Nostalgia lacks. |
