Baggage Weight

While 20, 30, 40 kg (44, 66, 88 lbs) are maximum economy, business and first class weight allowances, respectively, on most airlines, flights to and from the US, Canada and Brazil have a generous per piece system. But the pieces are shrinking! After US carriers arbitrarily reduced per bag weight allowance from 70 lbs to 50lbs (32 kg to 22 kg), some international airlines tried following suit. But with much less success!
After numerous complaints, British Air has extended its new weight restrictions by six months. Not surprisingly, really, as tougher security forces passengers to check in more, not less. Round-the-world passengers beware: Your 32 kg/70 pound allowance per bag can be invalidated by individual airlines -- even those amongst the same loyalty program. And on a slightly related subject, U.S. airline passenger's complaints about lost or mishandled baggage jumped more than 80 percent last year.
