Since
its lavish revamp from a humble eatery to a posh dining experience fitting
the likes of Beverly Hills, Ary's Warung has been the place to be seen
in central Ubud. The menu is modAustralian inspired -- that is, fresh
produce, the best of meats, and simple preparation -- although sadly,
its inspirational chef has since left the roost. |

The
six-course dinner tasting menu costs a reasonable 200,000 rupiah (about
$25 US/$40 AUD), with complimentary wines for 60,000 more (which is a
good deal in heavily sin-taxed Indonesia!) But avoid the muddied waters
here of the famed drink caipirovska. The lime is squeezed early in the
evening rendering its citric tang more bitter than acid, and in a case
of fusion gone awry, dark palm sugar substitutes for clear cane nectar. |
