Vietnam Highlands: Sapa & Bac Ha
26 - 29 March 2004

Discover the rugged hill tribe regions of northern Vietnam, near the Chinese border. Travel almost 400 miles nortneast of Hanoi to the famed Sapa love market, and the hill tribe market of Bac Ha. As you are near the Chinese border, the weather can be slightly chilly, but our luxurious Victoria Hotel accommodation -- with a roaring log fire in the lobby -- is a great way to visit this remote part of the world. Most meals, market tours and transportation included.

Friday 26 March O/N TRAIN
Arrival into Hanoi, with transfer at airport. We will take care of your luggage until tonight's departure, and depending on your arrival time, the day is free to explore Vietnam's capital city, until we meet in the late evening at the railroad for a 10 hour journey to Sapa. The luxury train includes supper and breakfast, plus sleeping berths. (Because of the train's configuration, most berths sleep four per room; there are two doubles available for a surcharge.)
Saturday 27 - Sunday 28 March O/N 27th SAPA - O/N 28th TRAIN
We've planned an exclusive series of outings to the high country, including: accommodation in the region's premium property, the Victoria Hotel. After check in and  sumptuous breakfast, a walking trek from Laochai to Tavan (approx. 2 hours), picnic lunch, and return by minivan. In the evening attend the Saturday Love Market in Sapa, where courting locals coo to their partners. On Sunday, start early and visit the colorful -- and largest -- hill tribe weekend market in the region, Bac Ha. On Sunday evening re-board the Victoria Express for sleeper accommodation, arriving in Hanoi early on Monday to join our group.
