| Best and Worst lists |

Who are the best and worst tourists in the world? Expedia asked hoteliers in a recent survey. In Europe British tourists rated worst, but overseas critics gave poms a silver medal, bettered only by Canada and Japan. Razoos went to Chinese, Indians and French, with Russian and Americans tying last at 11th place. Australians rated 6th best (or worst). Expedia gives a few tips on how to lift ranking: make an effort to savor local foods; learn simple phrases in the local language; pick up towels and garbage from your hotel room before checking out; and dress fashionably while on holiday. |

Best Cities: |
|
Judging from a recent study by Mercer Human Resources, quality of life and general living standards are best in Switzerland. There, three cities ranked in the world's top ten, with Zurich and Geneva in top 1 and 2 spots, and Bern tied at 9 with our own Sydney, Australia. Other cities include: 3) Vancouver, Canada; 4) Vienna, Austria; 5) Auckland, New Zealand; and three German cities come next in order: Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich. |

Best cheapie Airports: |
|
Some 200 thrift carriers voted at the World Low Cost Airlines Congress (we're not kidding!) in London to award its Budgie trophies to cost savers in the travel industry. World's best low-cost airport is Berlin's Berlin-Schönefeld, winning against Singapore's budget terminal at Changi, and Lyon's St. Exupery in France. America's Southwest again won best airline, while Asia X lauded for best newcomer. http://www.whausa.org/m_aboutus.php |

Worst immigration staff: |
|
London's Heathrow has the longest and most interminable queues, but JFK and LAX employ the world's rudest immigration staff, according to online travel network WAYN. (Personally, we find LAX staff angelic compared to SFO!) Some 2250 respondents rated these same three airports worst for both slow baggage retrieval and damage.
US immigration staff rated worse than even Russian and Indian bureaucrats, but by contrast, Heathrow topped the list for friendly staff, along with Sydney, Australia. Shortest immigration queue accolades went to Amsterdam's Schiphol, Singapore's Changi and Frankfurt. |
